The village of Khirbet Zenotha, nestled in the south of Mount Hebron, was home to 285 Palestinians, including 120 children. The community has lived there for generations, long before Israel occupied the West Bank.

In 2021, settler Yanon Levy established the “Mithrim Farm” outpost, which led to attacks and harassment from settlers. These attacks worsened after October 7 and all 285 residents were forced to dismantle their homes and leave. The settlers immediately demolished the remaining buildings and began herding their flocks in the parish grounds.

Following this, a petition was submitted to the High Court demanding that the residents be allowed to return to their homes. Although the state promised to allow their return and protect them, the military and settlers continued their clashes, including demolishing buildings, preventing the restoration of buildings destroyed by the settlers, and blocking access. In August 2024 where some of the residents with the aid of activists aimed to rebuild the community, but had to face repeated attacks and damage to their property. In September they were forced to leave again.

Its prostitution is just one example of a number of herding communities that have been dispossessed of their land in recent years. As part of the Israeli apartheid regime, agricultural outposts like string farms have become central tools in the ongoing attempt to dispossess Palestinians of their lands and deprive them of their most basic human rights.
