In response to a petition to the High Court of Justice requesting that the security forces be instructed to act immediately to prevent the expulsion of the Ma’arajat community by settlers and hilltop youth, Justice Stein wrote: “A provisional remedy that merely reiterates this general duty adds nothing and is unnecessary". Apparently, the army and police were unaware of their legal duty. A few hours later, it became clear that an urgent provisional remedy was no longer needed — the community had already been expelled from their homes in the presence of the security forces. The cleansing was complete.
